The film is great. I live in the States and pre-ordered the UK DVD under the impression they were getting it first, and I have a region free dvd player.. etc. But was disappointed when I found out it had been canceled. But I did get a copy of the Japan release, as well as a copy of the Australia release of the DVD. The Japan release is packaged wonderfully and has a neat menu. The Australia release by KOJO has a lot of deleted scenes.

What extras are on the Japanese DVD? I see the cover of the DVD on Amazon Japan, it looks special... I remember there was an interview in which Brent Stewart said his documentary "The Lonely" might feature on Japanese DVD but I take it from your post that it's not there.

As it is now the Mister Lonely has been released on DVD in just Australia (this DVD I have and so know what extras it has) and Japan. It was scheduled for release in the UK but this was delayed and now there is no sensible release date available (all I can see are some sites giving a date very late in 2009 - does anybody have a different date?). The US release is scheduled for November 18 with no DVD extras yet announced. Does anybody have any other DVD details to add?

I'm watching Hud right now and there's a scene where cows have to be put to sleep that I find very similar to the sheep in Mister Lonely. Is this acknowledged?

i dunno, but it really seems mister lonely has lifted or was inspired by a lot of scenes from other films. like the sunbathing scene is almost the same in martha (by fassbinder). i just talked with a friend about that today, and i think the film is full of references or hommages, we probably dont know about till yet.

Yea i find it funny that Korine slams Tarantino in interviews as a "collage artist" when he could be guilty of the exact same thing.

"After a certain point, cinema stopped giving me what I was once getting from it. It was once to me all about life and then it became a process. I wanted to make my own movies the way they should be made. More like a collage or a tapestry. Something more like a feeling. Something that you are affected by."

He calls Taratino a maker of homage films, not collage films.

Then wouldn't a collage of homages be worse?

I don't see the Hud connection, besides farm animals being shot because they're ill. Martha though, yes, I see that. In each a husband allows his wife to fall asleep in the sun and sunburns after she expressly tells him not to let her sleep for that very reason; then later the husband sleeps with her despite protests of pain.

I think that's taking a plot device, not exactly what Tarantino does, with his recreation of past films. It was Vincent Gallo that called Tarantino a 'collage artist,' also. I looked into it. I don't have anything against what Tarantino does, by the way, I just don't really see how you could say he and Korine are "guilty of the exact same thing." To me there's an unmistakable gulf between the two.

Korine says of Tarantino:

"Quentin Tarantino seems to be too concerned with other films. I mean, about appropriating other movies, like in a blender. I think it's like really funny at the time I'm seeing it, but then, I don't know, there's a void there. Some of the references are flat; just pop culture." (1995 - link)

"I have never been so much into homages. I would rather just rip something off, to be honest with you. I'll leave homages to Quentin Tarantino. He's got that covered." (2008 - link)

I thought it because both were killing diseased animals with shotguns but the main reason was what some of the shooters were wearing. In my memory, the Stooges were in all rubber like the Hud shot pictured below but I just pulled up Mister Lonely and they're actually wearing cloth. Still kinda close in my opinion.

I say that's a stretch. In both I gather they're dressed to protect themselves from blood. I think you have to assume a particular dress if you're going to shoot a whole herd/flock - it seems a bit much to try to connect this change of dress (and choice of weapon) to another film rather than life itself.

I don't think this interview has been posted

http://www.allocine.fr/video/player_gen ... 26866.html

He is on a real roll in this one and tells it very earnestly. Mister Lonely is opening in a few cinemas in Switzerland next month according to this site which calls the film "ultimately magnificent". I always wondered what Godard would think of Mister Lonely--now's his big chance to see it.

Hey guys, do ya'll have any links to websites where I can buy a version of Mister Lonely that has the deleted scenes (and maybe the 40-min documentary!?) that will play on american DVD players/x-box's, or where the website uses US money?

If not, is there any chance there's a torrent out there with these things?

I just want to say that I consider Mister Lonely one of the top 10 greatest films in history. I absolutely did not go into the film carrying anything in the world about wether this was a Korine film or not (but to be quite honest, I'm glad it was), and the film made me laugh many times, cry hysterically at the end, find inspiration in my life, and gave me so many gifts and emotions that I constantly feel so lost as to why this film didn't earn more money, or become famous around the world, or why it's hated by the majority of his fans. It puzzles me, to me, this film was pure magic.

And personally, I think Korine was always embarassed by this film because imagine you're a filmmaker who makes dirty, provocative works of art, and you turn around and make a film that's so emotionally inspirational and light-hearted (with such deep subliminal sorrow), a film that just so happened to re-vamp your own life and filmmaking career. I'm sure it's pretty emotionally embarassing in such a happy, warm way - like telling your parents you're dating your first girlfriend. He's never once seemed ashamed of this film, though, and I'd say it's still probably one of his favorite creations.

As a filmmaker and screenwriter myself, I've written everything from horror films, to dystopias, to children's stories, to just plain out provocative films, and if everything you do comes from the heart, it doesn't matter how different it all is. If you're confined by any sort of stereotype or cliche or rule or expectation, you'll never be a true artist, you'll be a trend or just a teenager's sense of pride.

I've found the extras on a private tracker (kg), unfortunately there's no more seeders. Maybe someone here has already download it ?
