It's all real.

The Comedy - I watched this back to back with Amour. The Comedy is infinitely more vital and haunting.

Barbara - Such rigorous direction, so precise and dutiful but never tedious. Duality, paranoia, poignancy.

Tabu - Not of this time, otherworldly and intangible, has a similar framework to Fata Morgana.

...on the real though has anyone else thought of SNOW ON THA BLUFF as a feature-length version of the video for "Hell Yeah" by Dead Prez?

Snow On Tha Bluff - Great film. I wonder how much of it is real. Probably not a lot; if anything, based on real portrayal.
The Center of the World - Good.
I Am Not A Freak - Short documentary by Kirby Dick on "circus freaks". Well done.
Models - Great. Ulrich Seidl is the master of portraying the ugliness of human condition.
A Loss Is To Be Expected (Mit Verlust ist zu rechnen) - Great. Ulrich Seidl is the master of portraying the loneliness of human condition.
Giliap - Not too great. I can see why Andersson wasn't too impressed with it either.
A Swedish Love Story - Beautiful film.
Dance Flick - Ridiculous.
Galaxy Quest - Ridiculous.
Gumbasia - Fun.
The Firm (1988) - Not bad, but all the other films by Clarke are much better.
Ghost Rock - This is probably The Room of westerns. Laughably bad.
Django 2: Django Strikes Again - Another awesome Django movie.
Viva! Django - This one.... not so much.
Some Dollars For Django - But this one, yes.
Indie Game: The Movie - Great documentary about struggling to make a personal games become successful.
For a Few Dollars More - Excellent.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - A masterpiece.
Piranha 3DD - The folks on this board were right, this is just awful. At least the remake was fun.
Kafka - Good, very interesting. Soderbergh practically did what Cronenberg did with Naked Lunch. He showed Kafka's life using elements of his novels as surrealist metaphors for his point of views.
Viridiana - Very good.
Piranhaconda - Just badddd.
The Grey - Ehh...
Vinyl - Andy Warhol's adaptation to A Clockwork Orange. It's also Sedgwick's first appearance, I believe. Interesting watch, but not all that great.
Batman Dracula - Silly bizarre.
Loves of a Blonde - Great.
Tiny Furniture - At first I found it tedious to watch with it's NY hipster lingo and vibe. I felt like I was watching a mumblecore version of Juno. But eventually, I felt like it got better and ended up enjoying it.
13 Assassins - Awesome.

It's a phenomenal movie which lends itself to a more critical approach. Try this:

anyone seen MARGARET? What a horrible ordeal for Lonergan, I missed it for the one week it was out on one screen here, to my shame.

Syndromes & a Century-Director: Apichatpong Weerasethakul 3.5/5
Les Carabiniers-Jean Luc Godard 4/5
Safety Not Guaranteed-Colin Trevorrow 4.5/5
Detroit Rock City-Adam Rifkin 3/5
Safe House-Daniel Espinosa 3/5
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter 3.5/5

Safety Not Guaranteed is a gem of a film. Full of heart and vulnerability. My favorite I've seen so far this year. produced by the Duplass Brothers and based on an actual internet meme and real classified ad.

The Decameron - Excellent. Pasolini is one of my favorite directors.
The Canterbury Tales - Another Pasolini adaptation. Never fails.
Satyricon - Really good, although I still think Fellini is quite overrated.
Livid - Alright. I was hoping it would be more like Inside, without the supernatural elements.
Juan of the Dead - Great. Cuba's first horror/zombie movie. Check it out.
You Don't Mess With the Zohan - Better than I expected it to be. Hit-and-miss comedy.
Hunger - Probably the best film on this list.
Black Dynamite - Kick-ass.
Moon - Debut film from David Bowie's son. I thought it was great.
Red State - Kevin Smith's best film since Clerks.
Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie - Screw Cannes, I thought it was hilarious.
Pollock - Very good. Changed my mind about Pollock and his work. His stuff is original.
Puncture - Not what I expected it to be. Good movie. As a former drug addict (that used needles), I learned a lot.
Absolute Evil - Ehh, it's not good at all, but eons better than the shit Ulli Lommel's been releasing.
Cat's Cradle - I wanted to check out Stan Brakhage's work. It's okay.
La Souriante Madame Beudet - Great.
Who the #*^@&& is Jackson Pollock? - Not bad. Art experts don't know shit.
The Hunger Games - Liked this quite a bit. I might start reading the series.
Creation - Good look into Darwin's life. Although, I don't know how much of it is true.
What the Bleep Do We Know!? - Okay. Kind of basic for a movie about quantum mechanics and philosophy.
In A Glass Cage - Good.
Badi (Turkish ET) - Awful. Basically Pod People 2.
Homoti (Turkish ET 2) - Awful, but hilarious.
Seytan (Turkish The Exorcist) - Better than a lot of the Turkish remakes, but still...
Korkusuz (Turkish Rambo) - Hilarious.
Exorcist II: The Heretic - I have no idea why they decided to make this. It's terrible.
The Good, the Bad, the Weird - Awesome.
Joe Kidd - Awesome. I love Clint.
Judge Dredd - Pretty lame.
Looking for Fidel - Not sure what to make of this yet.
Art School Confidential - Liked this quite a bit, other than the ending.
Dance Of The Dead (2008) - It wasn't as good as I was hoping...
Drifter: Henry Lee Lucas - Pretty misleading, but not too bad.
National Lampoon's The Legend of Awesomest Maximus - Either really funny or lame.
Common Law Cabin - Oh, Russ!
Byron - The best preview on Byron's life I've seen so far.
Alexander - Quite good.
Hairless Sphynx Cat [Probably the Most Popular DVD Art Movie 2009] - http://www.nowpublic.com/culture/nigel-tomm-presents-his-movie-hamlet

Quo Vadis (1951) - Pretty good.
Impromptu - Great.
Le Roi danse (The King is Dancing) - Very great.
Crime and Punishment (1969) - Great.
Anna Karenina (1997) - Very good.
John Cage: One11 and 103 - @#%^&%$#
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - Okay.
The Childhood of Maxim Gorky (Detstvo Gorkogo) - Okay.
Fist of the North Star (1995) (live-action) - Meh.
Tombstone of the Fireflies - Excellent.

Fertilize The Blaspheming Bombshell - Bad.

Actually I was gunna say that the films that stood out most recently were Rampart and Margaret. Paquin's performance was awesome. At first I had my doubts that she'd be able to pull of the role of a highschool student but damn, she was so annoying and in a good way. It's such a mindfuck imagining a teenager dealing with that.
Rampart was also great. Whoever said Moverman is the best around might have been right.

A Face In The Crowd - Marvellous. Griffith's performance is out of this world. Love the elevator sequence.
Hotel Monterey - Because there's no sound I chose to listen to John Coltrane's Blue Train album in place of the soundtrack and it worked very well. Was great to let my mind wander while I pondered the images.
Bill Hicks: Relentless - Hilarious.
American Reunion - Few cheap laughs.
Revolt (1986) - Cheesy '80s cinema at it's worst.
Night Of The Hunter - One of my favourite films, brilliant from start to finish. Lilian Gish is my favourite actress from the silent era so it's nice to see her in a talkie like this.

TYLER PERRY'S MADEA'S WITNESS PROTECTION PROGRAM - I've seen all of the Madea films; Tyler Perry is a true fucking anomaly. See what all the fuss is about.
