Invested in an SLR not too long ago but haven't really had much opportunity to use it. Filmed/edited this last night:

the shot at the end was well done. did you compress this a lot or something? this looks like what i get with my grandma's $200 handycam. i'm not sure if it's just compression settings, but I have a few friends who have DSLR's and I'm usually pretty underwhelmed when they show me their footage.

maybe it's just the light.

Yeah, it is compressed a lot, but also I relayered it put a bunch of filters on it to give it that kind of soft flicker effect... i dunno why I did that I guess I thought the original footage was too crisp?

I got the 60d... it's the same video processor as the 7d but doesnt do stills as well (boo fucking hoo). it's a little more expensive than the rebels but not by a whole lot. still, if that's the price range you're sticking with i'd suggest going with the t3i...

Once upon a time I was a student at university, my educational experiences culminating in the production of an Honors Thesis project consisting of a short film and a 30-page academic defense thereof. The paper was kind of a mess and numerous unplanned compromises in production and post left me in a feeling of despair regarding the film. It sat, buried in my hard-drive for two years, dismissed as a failure and disappointment. Anyway, time heals all wounds — I feel better about it now to the point where I'm comfortable with it being viewable online. Any shortcomings are the result of my writing/direction, not the hard work and dedication of the credited people who gave so much time and effort to the project.

I made this for the Knoxville 24 Hour Film Festival.

24 hours to make no longer than a 4 minute movie. We had to cut this down a bit to 4 minutes.

Elements we had to include:
15 consecutive seconds of music provide by local artists
the line of dialog "how do you like me now"
a hula hoop
the character of "a lover"

this won best actor, best director, audience favorite, and best film.

we are going to recut this to a bit of a longer version without the 24 hour constraints, so any input from anyone would be appreciated. the festival put this up with that little title slate at the beginning - that's not part of the actual short film.
