Earlier this month it was reported that Selena Gomez along with Vanessa Hudgens, James Franco and Emma Roberts had signed on to a new Harmony Korine project entitled “Springbreakers”. MTV managed to get a few words from Gomez with regards to the project. Gomez told reporters:

The beginning of next year I will be starting my new movie called ‘Spring Breakers’, I’m really, really excited about it. It’s a different character than I have ever played before.  It’s a different kind of vibe I think than people are used to seeing me in. What you’re going to see is more raw, I think. It’s going to be raw and more about acting.

The film is set to shoot next year during spring break with Korine writing and directing. Rachel Korine is also set to star.

Harmony Korine and James Franco recently banded together in aid of the installation piece “REBEL” which had it’s premiere this year at the Venice Biennale. The full project features three short films directed by Korine (“Caput”), Franco (“Brad Forever”) and Douglas Gordon (“Henry Rebel Drawing and Burning”).

Zero 1 Magazine are reporting that Korine’s segment “Caput” – which stars James Franco – is now being prepared to screen at the Museum Of Contempary Art in Los Angeles on December 1st in conjuction with the 10th anniversary of Art Basel Miami – which begins on the 1st of December. According to the site, a limited edition newspaper zine will be distributed and an exhibition of photos taken on set by Harmony and Adarsha Benjamin (creative director) will be on display.

Last year Harmony Korine and artist Rita Ackermann collaborated on various pieces of artwork in a series entitled “Shadowfux”. The art featured still photography taken from the filming of Trash Humpers collaged with paint and drawings by both Korine and Ackermann. The artwork has now been made available for purchase in a 124 hardback book now for sale at the Swiss Institute.

Shadow Fux
Rita Ackermann Harmony Korine
Text by Richard Flood, Antoine Catala, Gianni Jetzer, Piper Marshall, Cameron Shaw

Separately renowned in their respective mediums of film and painting, Harmony Korine and Rita Ackermann meet in their mutual affection for unorthodox, mischievous beauty, and more specifically in the creation of psychologically jarring figures amplified through fragmented narratives. Shadow Fux documents the artists’ first collaboration. Taking Korine’s recent film Trash Humpers (2009) as its point of departure, it features large-scale works in which Ackermann and Korine have collaged, painted and drawn over stills of the film’s beguiling young bodies with old faces. Generated through a call-and-response method, Shadow Fux illustrates the importance of cutting to both artists’ works. Additionally, it presents short texts by Korine, as well as previously unpublished deleted scenes from Trash Humpers.

Yesterday we gave you the news of a new Harmony Korine project involving James Franco and possibly Emma Roberts entitled “Springbreakers”. Unusually there is another advancement in the pre-production already as today Variety have reported that Disney Channel starlets Selena Gomez AND Vanessa Hudgens are BOTH in talks to appear in Korine’s upcoming project “Springbreakers”.

Variety reports:

Roberts would play a Southerner who feeds off danger, while Gomez would play a religious girl. The rest of the group would include Hudgens. Franco will co-star as a drug and arms dealer who bails them out of jail.

MJZ prexy David Zander will produce with Chris Hanley of Muse Prods., as well as Charles-Marie Anthonioz (“Trash Humpers”) and Jordan Gertner. Production will take place during spring break in Florida.

CAA packaged the project and will rep its domestic distribution rights, as the powerhouse agency reps Korine, Franco, Roberts, Hudgens and Gomez. Franco, Roberts, Hudgens and Gomez are respectively managed by Miles Levy of James/Levy Management, David Sweeney of Sweeney Entertainment, Evan Hainey of Untitled Entertainment and Mandy Teefey of LH7 Management. Hudgens and Gomez are also repped by attorneys Stephen Espinoza and PJ Shapiro, respectively.

Slash Film have posted up an article relating to a new project from Harmony Korine entitled “Springbreakers.” According to the site, James Franco and Emma Roberts are in talks to play roles in this new feature project.

The site offers a synopsis for the film:

[Spring Breakers] follows four college-aged girls who rob a fast food restaurant to afford spring break in Florida, only to get arrested upon their arrival… Alien, a rapping drug and arms dealer, bails them out and entices them to kill his arch-rival, a murderer who is appropriately named Arch.
