A review of Spring Breakers by Village Voice.

Spring Breakers seems to be holding a funhouse mirror up to the face of youth-driven pop culture, leaving us uncertain whether to laugh, recoil in horror, or marvel at its strange beauty.

A BUNDLE A MINUTE

At today’s SXSW panel after the screening of his new film Spring Breakers, Harmony Korine replayed his very first film. The image below is from a Tumblr page and you can read more on the event here at EntertainmentWeekly and here at IndieWire. FlavorWire also has another take on today’s event.

Speaking on the film, Korine said:

“I made it when I was 15. I wasn’t a particularly good student and it was a time when teachers were allowed to beat their students. And I wrote a short story and she held up my story and said, “This is a great example of a short story.” And she asked what I wanted to do when I grow up and she said, “I want to make movies.” She asked if I could make it into a movie and I said sure,” he explained, simply.
