Harmony Korine / Tokion / November 2005

Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao is simply the most exciting fighter of the modern era. He is one who rejects the formal grace of the sweet science, always seeming most happy when he's causing pain to others. Coming direct from the rice paddies of the Phillipines, this three time world champion featherweight is so fun to watch that everyday I say a little prayer for him. He is not the toughest guy, like a Bernard Hopkins, or a master technician, like 'Pretty Boy' Floyd Mayweather, but he is twitchy and full of bizarre explosive violence. In one fight I saw him punch his opponent's ear off his head and then try and help reattach it after the bout. Pacquiao is all heart and bile. He smokes and drinks and plays billiards when he should be training. He is a national hero in his country and will always hold a special place in my heart.
